Judge gives maximum scores in Sheffield photography competition

This was round three of a four stage content with pictures being pre-judged by

president of the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain, Howard Tate.

The results were then presented to the membership via zoom.

Spokesman John Gorman explained: “As per the previous rounds in September and November last year, each member could submit two prints in either a beginners or open section, which are constructively critiqued by the independent judge who scores each print up to a maximum of 20 points.

"Prints can be of any genre, colour or black and white.

“Whilst the highest scoring image at each round is declared the round winner, the sum of members two image scores go to form a league table from which, on the completion of the four rounds, a competition winner is declared.

Twenty four members took part in round three.

John Gorman’s industrial image of the “Pit Head Baths, Caphouse Colliery Mining Museum”, and Jonathan Elliott’s “Gelada Huddle”, captured in the darkest forests of South Yorkshire at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park, scored the maximum 20 points each.

Four images were awarded 19 points each as joint second, and a further six images 18 points each in joint third place.

The overall leader board after three rounds is: 1. Gareth Morgan, 105 points; 2. John Gorman, Linda Jackson, Judy Smith, Trevor Unwin, 104 points; 3. Jonathan Elliott, 102 points.

Five members entered in the beginners category and Marcus Offinger’s atmospheric image of the Peak District’s “Win Hill” was awarded the maximum 20 points.

An image by Robert Nixon Betts plus two by Hader Chishty finished joint second with 18 points each, whilst another image from Marcus Offinger finished third on 17 points.

The overall leader board after three rounds is: 1. Richard Worth, 103 points; 2. Marcus Offinger, 102 points; 3. Robert Nixon Betts, 100 points.
