A wholesome winter event

Looking for new ways to entertain the little ones can prove tricky - especially when the dark evening set in a little sooner than previously.

So how about an event that makes the most of the black sky and uses it to its advantage?

That’s exactly what happens at Gulliver’s Valley in Rotherham, just on the Sheffield border.

Their epic Land of Lights trail is set against the chilly night sky, meaning that anything other than a tea time black-out would simply spoil the fun.

And there was bags of fun to be had.

With themed sections around the one-mile walking route a new surprise wowed you around every corner.

From the sweety section to the Mexican theme (that I danced through to the embarrassment of my wife) - there’s sure to be a visual delight that pleases all along the way.

And with plenty of opportunity for Instagram-worthy pictures, everyone’s grid should be able to get a new post or two.

This is the second year the event has run, and it’s bigger and better than ever.

And with a few of the rides open and the change for food and toasted marshmallows along the trail, this proved to be the most wholesome of winter nights out for the Cawthorn family.

Rachael Lyon, festival manager, said: “Land of Lights continues to attract visitors from across the region and beyond, supporting local businesses and bringing people together during the winter season. We’re proud to offer an accessible, affordable and family-friendly experience, and we look forward to welcoming as many people as possible to see it for themselves.”

The festival is open to the public on Sunday 8 November and will run on selected dates until 30 January 2027.
