Free introduction to bowling sessions on offer at Crookes Club in Sheffield

Crookes Club are offering free introduction to bowling sessions thanks to a National Lottery Community grant.

The free sessions will start on Saturday at 10am at the club – they are free to attend and open to all.

Age and previous bowling experience are immaterial, with anyone aged 5 to 105 invited to go along and try their hand at crown green bowling.

All equipment and tuition and refreshments will be provided by the club and professional bowling instructors will be on hand to explain the difference between a thumb and a finger bowl, bias and how to best make use of the crown.

There is no need to register, just turn up on any Saturday from now until the end of July. All you need take is a pair of flat shoes.

Maurice Champeau, general manager of Crookes Club, said: “Our aim in providing these sessions it to not only introduce people to the fun that can be had playing Crown Green Bowls but to also allow the local community to have a little gentle exercise in a covid safe environment. The benefits to both physical and mental health of playing outdoor sorts is already well proven and we just want to do our bit for the local community.”
