The Spire Frier, on the corner of Saltergate and Broad Pavement, overlooking the Donut roundabout, hit the headlines last December with its special Christmas offering of sprouts, giant pigs in blankets and stuffing balls – as well as a Christmas pudding – battered.
Owner Katie Johnstone said at the time: “This is the third year we’ve done it and it’s back by popular demand. People are asking us for pigs in blankets from October.”

However, fans hoping for a repeat this year have been left disappointed, as the town centre takeaway remains closed.
A notice on the door reads: “Temporarily closed. Thank you to all our customers for continuing to support us, we will be announcing our return in the coming weeks.”
