Sheffield is home to more than a dozen different folk and morris dance sides, performing everything from centuries old sword dancing originating from Yorkshire and Northumbria, hanky dances from the Cotswolds to clog morris from the North West and spooky Border morris from the Welsh borders.

Tomorrow’s performance follows the annual Boxing Day dances staged by Handsworth Sword Dancers and Grenoside Sword Dancers – two of the oldest folk dance teams in the country - in their respective villages.

While their dances are well loved, it has been years since any local residents have joined the groups and organisers have appealed for fresh members to swell the ranks.

Simon Brock, Handsworth captain, said: "As always it was great to see so many of the local community turn out to support this local tradition. We really value the support and we'd love to see some new faces at practice."

Handsworth practice on Wednesdays, 8-10pm at Burton Street Foundation, Hillsborough. Grenoside practice every other Thursday at 8:30pm, at Grenoside Reading Room.
