New indoor ice rink with adults only disco and family sessions to open in Barnsley for Christmas
A new ice rink is on its way for Christmas
A new indoor ice rink with real ice will open in South Yorkshire for Christmas and new year.
It will be based at Barnsley Civic on Eldon Street from Monday, November 16 to Sunday, January 3.

Andrew Bishop, Executive Director, said: “This unique experience is an exciting new venture for Barnsley Civic and the whole town; we’ve certainly never done anything like it before!”
There will be dedicated adults only disco sessions on Thursday and Friday evenings through December from 7pm to 7.45pm, for over 18s.
There will also be two family disco sessions on New Years Eve from 2pm to 2.45pm and 3pm to 3.45pm.
Barnsley Civic confirmed quiet sessions will be available every Sunday morning from 10am to 10.45am, ensuring the event is accessible to all.
Anybody is welcome to these sessions, but they are designed for neurodivergent individuals and people who have difficulties with sensory processing, including adjustments to music and a smaller capacity.
For people who don’t like to skate, but still want to join in on the Christmas festivities, there will be seating where you can watch on the side of the rink. Spectator entry will also be free.
Hot chocolate, mulled wine, and snacks such as popcorn and nachos are available to purchase at the site.
Mr Bishop added: “Perfectly timed for the beginning of the festive season, we hope it introduces lots of brand-new visitors to Barnsley Civic to see what this venue and the whole town centre has to offer.”
Regular sessions will run from 3pm to 5.45pm on weekdays, and 10am to 8.45pm on weekends, with extended hours for adults only sessions and through the Christmas holidays.
Tickets are £10, including skate hire, and whilst walk-ins will be allowed, booking ahead is recommended.
