Sheffield is the greenest city in Europe, and the Peak District national park is right on our doorstep, providing outdoor space to stretch your legs whilst taking in the dramatic rock edges, wild moorlands and tranquil dales.
With this in mind, we’ve compiled the nine best cycling, running and walking routes that Sheffield and the peak district has to offer.
5. Ecclesall Woods
Walk or cycle in the ancient woodlands of Ecclesall Woods - the largest ancient woodland in the whole of South Yorkshire. With over 350-acres of mature, deciduous woodland, this huge area is the perfect place to explore and features signed footpaths that can be followed. Photo: Tony Johnson
6. Rivelin Valley
The 4km tree-lined Rivelin Valley walking route is extremely picturesque and features winding waterways that are punctuated with fascinating reminders of the city’s industrial past. The walk starts at the car park just off Rivelin Valley Road. Photo: Google
7. Graves Park
As the largest park in Sheffield, Graves park is one of the best places to visit for a run. The 4km route will take you through a mix of open parkland and woodland and there are amazing views out towards the Peak District. Photo: Dean Atkins
