Sheffield has the highest ratio of trees to people of any city in Europe. In fact, a third of the city is built in the boundaries of the Peak District. The beautiful city boasts as many as 250 parks, woodlands and gardens around the metropolis.

In 2013, Sheffield beat 29 applicants to make it to the final City of Culture shortlist alongside Derry, Norwich and Birmingham.

Sheffield is also known affectionately as the 'Steel City'. Sheffield gained international reputation for steel production in the 19th century. Stainless steel was also developed in Sheffield and is used around the world for things like cutlery.
