Some venues remain closed to bands but a few, featured here, are pioneering a return to live music – although who you can go with is still restricted, as are audience numbers, and you’ll have to stay in your seat. It will still be wonderful, though, and we hope performers and venues will be able to get some support from customers at long last.
5. Jazz giants
The second band to appear at Crookes Social Club for Sheffield Jazz is a big one - Alan Barnes + 11 on June 11. The British sax star celebrated his 60th birthday in 2019 and he's taking inspiration from albums released in 1959, such as Kind of Blue, Giant Steps, Mingus Ah Um and Thelonious Monk at Town Hall.
