But a trip to the cinema can be harsh on the wallet, especially once you factor in the obligatory popcorn and other refreshments.
That’s why we’ve compared the prices to show which cinemas in Sheffield are the cheapest for a night at the flicks.
There’s a big variation too, with peak-time adult tickets ranging from £11.40 to just £3.
Obviously it’s not all about the price, with some cinemas priding themselves on offering viewers a luxury experience, complete with copious legroom, giant screens, all the latest technology and the widest range of films.
But for anyone on a tight budget, this list – comparing standard peak and off-peak ticket prices – is worth checking out.
Where there’s no standard peak and off-peak price, we’ve used the price of a screening between 12pm and 5pm on Saturday, and the price on a Thursday, between 6pm and 8pm.
We've also not factored in booking prices, which vary depending on the cinema and whether you’re booking online, by phone or in person.
