TV talent judge takes on festive musical role

The stars of Sheffield Theatres’ festive offering have been revealed.

Rehearsals for the Crucible’s production of much-loved musical Oliver are underway now the full cast has been confirmed.

Tony Award-nominated theatre actor Tom Edden plays Fagin, while Hayley Gallivan, who has a host of West End musicals under her belt, will take on the role of Nancy.

Television talent show judge Ben Richards, who sat on the panel on BBC One’s Strictly Dance Fever, plays the ultimate Dickensian villain Bill Sikes.

Adult stars will join two boys sharing the role of Oliver Twist - Samuel Bailey, aged 12, and Jack Skilbeck-Dunn, 11 - and Jack Armstrong, 13 and Travis Caddy, 14 alternating as the Artful Dodger. All four youngsters were selected from open auditions held in the city.

Artistic director Daniel Evans and the company know they have a tough act to follow after last year’s critically-acclaimed production of My Fair Lady starring homegrown talent Dominic West.

The show won rave reviews from local and national press.

Oliver runs at the Crucible in Sheffield City Centre from Friday, November 29 to January 25. Tickets are available now from the theatre box office priced between £17 and £32.
