Mozart’s final masterpiece is one of the best-loved operas in history.
Saturday night’s performance is the opening night of Young Opera Venture’s exciting new production.
The Magic Flute combines comedy, pantomime, love story, fantasy and philosophy in marvellous music which includes many famous and hummable tunes, expressive arias, wonderful ensemble writing, and, for the Queen of the Night, the highest notes in all opera!
In this magical story the birdcatcher Papageno and Prince Tamino face great dangers to rescue Princess Pamina from the fiend Sarastro. But is he really a baddie?
This production is performed by a cast of 17 prize-winning young professional singers with the chamber orchestra of Young Opera Venture.
The opera will be presented in an English translation by Jeremy Sams.
The director is Jane Anthony and the conductor is John Longstaff.
Young Opera Venture was established in Leeds and won its first Arts Council funding for this tour to nine towns, most of which see little opera at present.
