Veteran stars of children’s television admitted they had a ball when they reunited on stage in Sheffield.

Stars of yesteryear Derek Griffiths, Baroness Floella Benjamin, Iain Lauchlan and Dave Benson-Phillips joined current stars of CBeebies for the pre-school channel’s Christmas show.

A CBeebies Christmas Carol was filmed over two days at Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre last month.

Derek, a familiar figure to young viewers in the 1970s as a presenter of Play School, said: ““I had a week of nostalgic joy.”

Derek and fellow Play School presenter Baroness Benjamin were also reunited with cuddly toy character Humpty from their Play School days.

Baroness Benjamin said: said: “I loved joining such a brilliant cast, including the biggest star of all – Humpty.

“It was a thrill seeing the faces of the children in the audience watching the show with such enchantment.”
