A medical specialist Doncaster doctor has turned his lifelong dream in to reality by bringing his musical extravaganza the stage.

Dr Kumar, 52, an Orthopaedic surgeon, has been planning “Indika” for seven years, and it will finally come to the stage at CAST in September.

Originally from Vizag, India, Dr Kumar was inspired to start his musical journey 22 years ago, taking inspiration from an Oprah Winfrey quote - “Passion is energy - feel the power that comes from focussing on what excites you.”

The show, which is told in English, brings together a vibrant, high energy Indian spectacle. Featuring the best talent the country has to offer, in the form of finalists from India’s Dancing Superstar and India’s Got Talent, the show will deliver a fusion of Indian dance and western theatre.

It aims to inspire audiences through Indian dance forms, while educating them of the 5000 year history of the country in a two hour performance.

Dr Kumar said: “Having worked hard for a career in medicine and gaining my consultant status in Orthopaedics, I looked for a new challenge, a creative journey.

“From the first notes to sourcing the best team to help me with this project, the dancers, set designers, music composers and choreographers, it has been an exciting and rewarding journey and one that I can’t wait to see up on the stage. It will be an immensely proud moment.”

“Indika” will be on stage from September 26 to October 5.
