WITH the NHS very much in the news right now, the timing of The Pomegranate's hosting of Nursing Lives tonight is apt.

Vamos Theatre Company present a celebration of the expertise and escapades of nurses during World War II.

Set in 1939, the play follows trainee Florence as she is thrown directly into the harsh realities of work on the ward.

She encounters the wrath of Sister Martin, endures and enjoys the pranks of fellow nurses, falls in love and confronts the inequalities in the use of the new super drug, penicillin.

On Saturday at the Chesterfield venue, Co-Opera Co in association with the Carolaire Choir, present A Gala Community Concert.

It combines four professional singers and a pianist with a local choir for an evening of arias and ensembles from favourite operas.
