SOS scheme for animals

A PILOT scheme for dealing with animals injured on the motorway is to be rolled out nationwide.

A new agreement, trialled partly in South Yorkshire, will mean Highways Agency operators can call the RSPCA round the clock, and incidents will be prioritised as a an emergency. An RSPCA inspector will then attend, or send a local vet to the scene if necessary.

Cows, bulls, horses, dogs, deer, swans, chickens and sheep are just some of the animals traffic officers have previously had to manage.
