Shop assistant fights off two raiders

A TERRIFIED shopworker was confronted by two raiders wielding a hammer and a crowbar in a Stannington newsagent.

But the shop assistant fought them off and they were forced to flee.

The incident happened at Stannington News on Stannington Road.

Two men entered the newsagent and threatened the male member of staff. A short struggle followed and the man fought off the raiders.

They got into what is believed to be a stolen white old-style Vauxhall Cavalier, which contained a third man.

The Cavalier was recovered burnt out on Roscoe Bank.

The staff member was shaken and had minor injuries.
