Sheffielders will remember victims of the Holocaust on Monday with a candlelight vigil at the Winter Garden.
The memorial ceremony, from 5.30pm to 6.30pm, will mark Holocaust Memorial Day.
The service will include readings which reflect this year’s theme of ‘journeys’ and how survivors came to the UK to rebuild their lives.
Lord Mayor Coun Vickie Priestley said: The survivors of the Holocaust have shown us through their experiences and accounts how we can learn from these horrendous events.
“I hope as many people as possible will join me at the Winter Garden to light a candle and mark what is such an important day across the world.”
Meanwhile, Rotherham marked the occasion yesterday with young people gathering at Rotherham Town Hall for performances of poetry, readings, music, dancing and singing. It was compered by Josh Parker from Rotherham’s Youth Cabinet.
Holocaust Memorial Day is marked every year on January 27 – the anniversary of the date the Nazi death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau was liberated in World War Two.
