Sheffield getting richer

HOUSEHOLD incomes across parts of Sheffield and Rother ham are rising ahead of the Yorkshire average - with Sheffield Hallam leading the way.

The constituency was today named once again as the richest area in the whole of the region, and one of the 20 richest in the whole country.

According to research carried out by Barclays Premier Banking - the personal banking service for affluent customers - total incomes have risen by six per cent in Hallam over the last year and 30 per cent over the last five years.

Hallam is also one of the country's top 20 wealthiest places with 4.6 per cent of residents now earning more than 100,000 a year.

Sheffield Heeley, Attercliffe, the Don Valley and Rotherham have all seen incomes increase by five per cent over the last year, but all remain well behind Hallam in terms of total income.

Sheffield Central saw the biggest rise in incomes over five years but, despite a 35 per cent increase, people living in Central have a total household income of 27,450 - around half that of the residents of Hallam.
