Sheffield Doc/Fest offers £15,000 prize for digital art of future

Sheffield Doc/Fest and the city’s Site Gallery have launched an open call for proposals to their Alternate Realities Commission programme.

They are inviting applications for digital projects in development to receive completion funding of £15,000 and to be included in their Alternate Realities exhibition.

The deadline to apply is January 13.

The programme, just like the festival, is open to all kinds of digital non-fiction projects.

The two organisations encourage proposals from debut, emerging and established, multi-platform and digital artists and artist collectives from both the UK and overseas.

The supported project will be exhibited as part of the Alternate Realities exhibition during the 2020 Doc/Fest, which is taking place from June 4 to 9, with the possibility of an extended exhibition run of up to one month.

Joe Cutts, curator and head of the Alternate Realities programme, said: “I am excited to continue our annual tradition of launching the commission programme for artists and collectives in any stages of their practice.

“We look forward to welcoming proposals for strong research-backed projects in development that bring along a critical reflection into our worlds and lives.”

Alternate Realities is described as a space for experimentation in contemporary digital art.
