Save me from yob 'torture'

A WOMAN is fighting to be rehoused after yobs smashed her windows, threatened to kill her, stole her washing and hurled bricks at her door – all since she moved into her flat just five weeks ago.

Patricia Craig, aged 59, said she fears for her life and has asked to be moved elsewhere to escape the "constant torture".

She claims previous tenants have moved from the ground floor flat on Southey Avenue, Southey Green, after similar problems.

Ms Craig, who was a property manager in Florida for 23 years before returning to care for her sick father, said the abuse happened every day.

She said: "Within days of moving in the trouble started. They started throwing bricks at my door and have continued to do that over and over again.

"Then they started turning over the rubbish bins, they have cut my TV aerial and they have even thrown a brick through the bathroom window with so much force it ended up in the hallway and has taken a chunk out of the wall.

"They have messed about with my washing and one time when I was sat with the window open a lad with his top pulled up so that I could only see is eyes, put his head through, and said 'We are going to have you.

You will finish up dead'. At first I tried to reason with them, but it has gone beyond that and something has to be done before it is too late. I never know what is going to happen next. A previous tenant told me he moved because he had the same kind of problems."

Acting Inspector Alun Oliver, from South Yorkshire Police, said: "Officers have carried out house-to-house inquiries and all lines of inquiry have been investigated."

Paul Voyse, area manager for Sheffield Homes, said: "We are looking into a number of options including rehousing."
