Sarah tackles Great North Run for Lisa

FORMER Star reporter Sarah Goldthorpe will run every mile for her niece when she tackles the Great North Run this weekend.

Sarah's niece Lisa Hutchings, of Thurlstone, was diagnosed with Crohn's disease when she was a student at Newcastle Univ-ersity and had to quit her degree course.

She has since undergone gruelling treatment and surgery.

And Sarah, aged 36, who also lives in Thurlstone and is a producer with ITV's Calendar news programme, said: "Lisa has just undergone yet another major operation and never complains.

"There is no known cause or cure for Crohn's disease and it was her bravery throughout a great deal of pain and invasive treatment that has prompted me to try to raise sponsorship for the National Assocation of Colitis and Crohn's Dis-ease."

The half-marathon takes place in Newcastle on Sunday.

Sarah said: "I have no idea how long it will take me but I'm determined to keep going until the end.

"For me it's the challenge of a lifetime, but when I think of what Lisa and other sufferers go through that will inspire me to just keep on running."
