Ruth coins it in with jubilee find

STAR reader Ruth Worboys found a blast from the past - when she discovered a jubilee commemorative coin marking 50 years of your favourite Sheffield newspaper!

Mrs Worboys discovered the coin among her father Henry Newcombe’s belongings after he died last year.

She said her dad - a hoarder who had a number of historical artefacts in his collection and who religiously kept a diary - was also a regular reader of The Star.

The coin dates back to 1938, and marks 50 years of the newspaper which began in 1888.

Mrs Worboys, of Handsworth, said: “It’s been very interesting sorting through all the different things he kept over the years - he is taking me off in all sorts of different directions!”
