Robber has jail term cut

A THIEF who terrorised a Chesterfield shopworker in a knifepoint raid has had his sentence cut by top judges.

Lee Briggs, 25, of Compton Street, Holmwood, Chesterfield, was jailed for 40 months at Derby Crown Court in March after admitting the robbery of 400 at a Spar in Sheffield Road, Chesterfield.

Mr Justice Tugendhat - sitting at London's Appeal Court with Mrs Justice Cox and Lord Justice Laws - said the 40 month sentence was too high because of Briggs’s the lack of planning and his guilty plea. His sentence was cut to two years.
