Recycling for city district

NEW recycling bins are to be installed from tomorrow outside Sheffield Cathedral, for people who eat their lunch there.

The cathedral forecourt has become popular as a place for office workers to sit and eat at lunchtimes, and council chiefs want people to recycle their glass, paper, plastics and aluminium cans.

The bins will have four sections, clearly labelled to make them as easy to use as possible. If they are a success they may be installed in other city centre spots.

Coun Bryan Lodge said: “Keeping the city centre clean and green is an important issue, and we need as many people to get involved as possible. If the bins prove to be a success we will look at installing them in other busy city centre areas."

The Rev Canon Dr Joanne Grenfell added: “We believe it is part of our mission as Christians to be good stewards of the Earth, so we are always looking for ways to be more environmentally-friendly.”
