Rally to lift jobs threat

DISABLED workers whose jobs with specialist employer Remploy are under threat have organised a rally in Sheffield to protest over the cuts.

A total of 43 Remploy factories nationwide are scheduled to close and others could be down-scaled through mergers.

Lack of work is thought to be responsible for the cuts but the GMB, Britain’s general union, believes raising awareness of the closures could result in more contracts.

A rally will be held tomorrow outside the Remploy Sheffield Factory on Brightside Lane, which is not among those earmarked for closure, from 8am.
