Pupils learn about police

AN old-style wooden police truncheon, a World War II police helmet and a Victorian police cape are among a host of objects due to be displayed in Derbyshire schools as part of citizenship lessons.

They form part of a new educational resource put together by staff at Derbyshire County Council's Buxton Museum and Art Gallery, using artefacts from the Derbyshire Police Collection.

It is intended to teach pupils about police powers of arrest and how the objects police officers carry have changed.

The resource also includes a DVD of interviews with present day police officers.
