Protest plan outside bank

ENVIRONMENTAL protesters were today set to gather outside a Sheffield branch of a bank branded "climate criminals".

Friends of the Earth is organising a demonstration outside the Royal Bank of Scotland, in Whitham Road, Broomhill, from 1pm.

The event is part of a national day of action which aims to put pressure on the company to reduce both funding and loans it gives to the aviation industry and its support for a gas pipeline in Wales.

Mary Parker, of Sheffield Friends of the Earth, said: "Businesses must take responsibility for their actions. The investment in oil and gas by the bank in 2001-2006 will cause more CO2 emissions than the whole of the UK for the year."
