Police van accident man still 'critical'

A BARNSLEY man injured in an accident with a police van has made a slight improvement overnight, but remains critically ill in the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield.

Today investigators from the Independent Police Complaints Commission appealed for witnesses to come forward. They want to hear from anyone who saw the collision, which happened as the 40-year-old and his wife were talking to West Yorkshire Police officers near Barnsley Golf Course on the A61, following a dispute between a taxi driver and his passengers.

A South Yorkshire Police van containing two police officers and two passengers was travelling along the road in the direction of Wakefield.
