Pledge on safety plans

RESIDENTS have been assured their concerns about the safety implications of traffic being diverted through their village after the collapse of a road in the floods will be listened to.

Worrall residents have set up a working party to try to deal with the implications of increased traffic through the village following the closure of the A6102 Middlewood Road, before the children return to school next month.

But Sheffield Council has reassured residents that road safety studies are already underway - and any concerns they have will be taken into account . A public meeting at the Worrall Independent Chapel in Towngate Road was held to discuss the impact of the diversions .

Coun Bryan Lodge, cabinet member for transport and streetscene, said: “We have been working with residents in the area keeping them informed of developments regarding works on the A6102. Following the closure we have carried out a risk assessment of the full diversion route and are looking to design road safety measures to help deal with the impact of the diversions.”
