Pleasant surprise down in the woods today

A CONSERVATION group has improved accessibility to a city beauty spot for elderly and disabled visitors.

Voluntary organisation Friends of Ecclesall Woods have completed refurbishment of the area's paths and trails.

They secured a grant to pay for the work and managed to completely resurface 1000m, the largest amount of path that has ever been overhauled in the woods.

Some sections had been almost inaccessible due to boggy ground but the group came up with an attractive solution. They created a boardwalk to span the area, which means that wheelchairs and pushchairs can now use that path.

The group have just launched a new membership drive to encourage others to help look after the woods.
