PICTURES: All the fun of the fair at Doncaster country village show

The annual Braithwell Church and Country Fair took place on Saturday – and the show, which has been running for more than three decades, once again proved a smash hit with the crowds.

Visitors were able to enjoy classic cars, military vehicles as well as sheep-shearing displays, sheep racing, a coconut shy and plenty of food and drink.

A spokesman said: “Over the years with the constant help from villagers and loyal friends and supporters from further afield, the fair has developed into what it is today – a wonderful blend of village fairs from yesteryear, combined with a modern outlook, but not overly commercialised.”

The first fair took place in 1984 and was known as Braithwell Church Fair. The idea was to generate funds to go towards the upkeep of the beautiful St James’ Church, which is key to the community of Braithwell.

Showgoers of all ages were also able to enjoy family entertainment, crafts, cakes, farm machinery, livestock and much more at the event staged in the village, which is between Maltby and Edlington.

The spokesman added: ”May we take this opportunity to thank everyone involved for their continued support.”

The event was held on the Ruddle Centre Playing Field.
