Passengers in crime fight

TRAIN passengers can get free property marking and crime prevention advice in Sheffield as part of efforts to cut thefts on the rail network.

British Transport Police will be at Midland Station between 10 am and 3 pm on Friday, when they will also provide the service on trains and at a number of other local stations.

People travelling with mobile phones, laptops, and iPods will be encouraged to have them marked so they are identifiable if lost or stolen.

And passengers will also be encouraged to log property on a national register of phone IMEI numbers, and serial numbers for electrical equipment, at www.immobilise.com.

The system allows police to find owners when items are found.
