Passenger hurt in crash

A MAN who was taken to hospital with serious head and facial injuries following a car smash was described as being in a satisfactory condition in hospital.

The 39-year-old was a front seat passenger in the car which was being driven along Barnsley Road, Shirecliffe, when it collided with a lamppost. The driver, a 27-year-old man, had to be cut free by firefighters and suffered minor head and leg injuries.

He was later discharged.
