PUPILS from a Chesterfield secondary school are to take centre stage reciting their own poetry at the town’s Lyric Lounge, as part of Igniting Ambition, the East Midlands’ contribution to the Cultural Olympiad.
Year 8 youngsters from Staveley Community College wrote the poems after taking part in a joint project on creative writing.
The students will be joined on Saturday, May 12, in day and evening sessions by professional poets Mark Gwynne Jones and John Agard, who will perform their own pieces.
The poems are all based on the theme Behind the Scenes at the Museum. The students visited Chesterfield Museum and saw the storeroom where a number of original and odd items became their inspiration.
