A STEADY stream of people coming and going from a takeaway despite it being a cold and rainy night usually means there’s something good to offer - and we were spoilt for choice once inside.
There are 166 different items of Chinese staples available at Canton Wok, plus six different set meals.
We went for vegetable spring rolls, prawn crackers, king prawns with ginger and spring onions, vegetable chow mein, aubergines in szechaun sauce and egg fried rice, which came to a good value total of just under £15, after a 10 per cent discount for collection.
A swift half in Wetherspoons passed the time while waiting for it to be cooked and the meal was bagged up and ready for us on our return.
“It feels a bit heavy,” my friend said. “Do you reckon there’ll be enough to go round?!”
Unpacking, we found there was certainly plenty for even a giant’s appetite, and no complaints about the quality. The three main dishes were in what seemed to me to be deeper than normal containers, and there was enough left to put in the fridge to re-heat the next day.
The spring rolls were just right, crispy and filling, while there were prawn crackers-a-plenty, and the king prawn dish in particular was very aromatic with a tangy flavours.
An extra surprise was also in the bag - a portion of chips (not sure if they were an extra or had been put in by mistake but they were appreciated all the same).
Good value, choice and quality. What’s not to like?
