THE world famous Harlem Globetrotters are bouncing back for more slam dunk family fun at Sheffield’s Motorpoint Arena – and we have tickets to be won, writes Graham Walker.
Sweet Georgia Brown, their famous theme tune, will whistle around the venue on Tuesday, March 26, at 7.30pm.
Their 2013 You Write The Rules World Tour, as the name implies, will allow fans to decide the wacky rules for the game – for details visit harlemglobetrotters.com.
Pictured here, with some of the the team’s modern day superstars, is retired 1960s legend Curly Neal, now aged 70. Other greats have include “Meadowlark” Lemon and Sweet Lou Dunbar.
The current roster, subject to change, includes Special K Daley, Big Easy Lofton, Flight Time Lang and 7ft 8in Tiny Sturgess, the world’s tallest professional basketball player.
Renowned worldwide for their top-class basketball tricks and one-of-a-kind family entertainment, they perform to thousands of people in hundreds of countries every year, continuing the team’s legacy which began in 1926.
Over the years, as well as breaking basketball records, the teams have broken social and cultural barriers – featuring on the cover of Life magazine in the 1940s, becoming the first basketball team to play in Europe, and selling out a tour of the Soviet Union during the Cold War in 1959.
