More than 30,000 people got the fright of their lives this weekend at Sheffield’s second annual Out of this World festival.
Hordes of guests – from families to cosplay enthusiasts – enjoyed meeting sci-fi characters in the Peace Gardens and Winter Garden, getting spooked on The Moor and being wowed by magicians outside the Town Hall at the Out of this World festival.
Some of the favourite attractions at the festival on Sunday were Transformers cars and characters, Captain America, Darth Vader and the stormtroopers, Lobster A La Carte, Epico The Dragon and Dr Diablo’s sideshows.
Younger visitors also enjoyed the scary fun on fairground rides across Fargate, Barkers Pool and Tudor Square, as well as live entertainment and a range of children’s activities throughout the city centre.
Coun Sioned-Mair Richards, cabinet member for neighbourhoods at Sheffield City Council, said: “I’m absolutely thrilled that so many people came from all over the North and Midlands to enjoy Out of This World.
“We knew that there would be something for everyone to enjoy, but what we could never have predicted was just how many people would dress up and take part.
“It was fantastic to see so many people in costume and entering into the spirit of the event.”
The council’s major events team is now gearing up for the city centre’s next big event – the Christmas light switch-on on November 22.
