Hen-do revellers and rugby players alike are mixing it up by trying Sheffield’s newest bar craze - cocktail masterclasses.
Lessons in the art of mint muddling and drink-shaking have become an instant hit after they were launched by independently-run bar Bloo 88, on West Street.
And the bar’s expert mixologists have given Star readers a free taste of their exclusive cocktails by taking part in a video for our website.
Bar manager Josh Jackson said: “The masterclasses came about because we had people asking whether we did them. Since they launched we have had three or four a week, and soon we are having one themed around The Full Monty.
“The masterclasses are great for birthdays and hen- dos but we have had all kinds of people come along.
“It’s a great way to have fun and learn something at the same time.”
Bloo 88 serves up more than 500 cocktails every week – with the most popular being Killer Punch, Absolut AM and Jack’s Cocktail, named after a bartender. The masterclasses take place in an upstairs function room at what used to be Victorian pub The Hallamshire Hotel.
Josh, who lives in Crookes with mixologist Laurence Grey, added: “The popularity of cocktails is going up and up in Sheffield. We are known for our cocktails so people come in for them specifically.
“At the masterclasses we’ve had rugby players coming in and making drinks while standing on each other’s shoulders. Other groups of girls have been blindfolded – it’s all great fun.”
n The cocktail masterclasses cost £19.95 for a two-hour session including drinks and can be upgraded to a food package. Call Bloo 88 on 0114 270 6264 or find them on Twitter and Facebook to book.
