Town’s scarecrows draw a short straw

Have your say

Last-minute adjustments are being made to costumes as a Doncaster town’s scarecrow makers prepare for a big weekend.

The second annual Scarecrow Festival has been organised by volunteers of the Tickhill Together group and such was its popularity last year that this time around an extra day has been added.

A fun-packed weekend is promised for this Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 5pm, and a £2 programme that can be purchased from the Card Gallery on Castlegate shows the location around the town of over 100 scarecrows.

This year visitors will be able to vote for their favourite scarecrow on Saturday by completing a voting slip in the programme and handing it in at the Card Gallery.

The winner of the competition will be announced on Sunday.

Entertainment on Saturday includes the Tickhill-based Green Oak Morris Dancers.

Refreshments will be served at the Methodist Church, Parish Room and Evangelical Church.

The Sir Thomas Wharton School Band will be playing at the Buttercross monument on Sunday at 1.30pm.

Money raised at the event will go towards funding this year’s Christmas lights.
