Suspended Radio Sheffield star Toby Foster will be back hosting his breakfast show on Monday, writes Graham Walker.

The BBC confirmed his comeback and Toby made a short statement to fans on their official Facebook page.

It follows his return to BBC duties earlier this week as a TV presenter on Inside Out for the Yorkshire and Lincolnshire areas.

The 44-year-old, from near Rotherham, was suspended six weeks ago after a Twitter outburst in which he feared he was being sacked and used an offensive word.

He quickly deleted the tweets and offered a full apology to his colleagues and public before Christmas, in a statement on the official BBC Radio Sheffield Facebook page.

Fans of the award-winning radio favourite, who joined the station in 2002, set up an online ‘Save Our Toby’ campaign calling for his reinstatement.

Radio Sheffield sports editor Paul Walker has been sitting in for Toby, with contributions from the regular team.

In a statement on the BBC Facebook page, Toby said: “Hi folks, I’m sorry there has been silence from me and the radio station about why I’ve not been presenting the breakfast programme.

“Just before Christmas you’ll know I made some comments on social media which were totally unfounded and one in particular was offensive.

“I’ve apologised to everyone here at BBC Radio Sheffield and between us we’re looking forward to moving on and bringing you the best breakfast show we can. See you on Monday from 7am. Toby.”

The BBC confirmed Toby will be back on Monday.

A spokesman said: “Toby has apologised to both BBC staff and listeners for inappropriate tweets he sent before Christmas.

“The BBC has accepted that apology and he’ll be back presenting the ‘Toby Foster at Breakfast’ programme on BBC Radio Sheffield from Monday.”

The popular presenter, stand-up comedian and actor appeared as the drummer in Peter Kay’s cult comedy Phoenix Nights,

He fronts the three-hour Radio Sheffield breakfast show, taking an off-the-wall look at news, travel, weather and sport, weekdays from 7am to 9am followed by a topical phone-in until 10am.

Toby’s BBC return to presenting saw him host Inside Out on Monday, which investigated claims about unregulated fracking and can be watched on the BBC iPlayer at
