STARS of stage and screen will be treading the boards at Sheffield theatres later this year, following the announcement of the cast lists for the city’s autumn productions.

The season includes new versions of Macbeth, A Taste Of Honey and My Fair Lady, as well as the UK premiere of the play The Village Bike.

Dominic West, star of popular American crime series The Wire, is playing Professor Higgins in My Fair Lady in his first Sheffield role since appearing in Othello at The Crucible.

The production of the Shakespeare play attracted rave reviews from national critics and featured West as manipulative villain Iago - played with a Yorkshire accent.

Meanwhile, the company for The Village Bike features Doctor Who’s Amy Cudden.

Daniel Evans, Sheffield Theatres’ artistic director, said he was ‘delighted’ with the programme.

He said: “It’s a season of work designed to offer our audiences in the city, the region and beyond the very best of British drama, new and old.”

The season runs from September to next January, and tickets are on sale now.
