TECH TALK: EZVIZ C6T Wi-Fi pan tilt camera

IT'S amazing what the internet now allows us to do, and home security is one which has benefitted from the Wi-Fi age.

The EZVIZ C6T Wi-Fi pan tilt camera - a Terry's Chocolate Orange-size piece of equipment - is one such device which after taking out of its box is soon doing exactly what it says on the...er..box!

Plug into into a power socket, download the app from the Android App store or Apple Store, register an account and connect to the wifi - easy!

There are several methods to connect to your wifi , but for me the first suggestion in the booklet worked fine. Still, it's nice to know there are alternatives if you have a problem connecting.

So what does it do? Well, it's a security camera that allows you to see your home when you are away. While admittedly there are free apps that allow you to connect an old mobile phone and use its camera to 'do the same', this special sphere has an arsenal of extra weapons.

First it has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 for clearer sharper details and can pan up to 340 degrees horizontally and tilt up to 90 degrees (80° vertical upward and 10° vertical downward rotations) rather than the fixed angle an old smartphone would provide.

This is all done remotely via the phone app, so wherever you are in the world you can track virtually wherever you would like to see and zoom in up to 8x.

It allows storage of up to 128gb via an SD card (not provided) or via Cloud, though the latter does come at a price. Infra red features also allow for night vision, which is triggered automatically.

You can also activate the motion tracker which would then send a message/pic to your phone. Were it to be an intruder, you then can click the two-way audio button alerting the undesirable to get out of your home.

The speaker is not so big so you're not going to make him jump out of his skin with sheer volume, but he would get the message, and you would get his picture. You could also use this feature to talk to any pets at home.

There's also a timeline window in the app so, providing you have an SD card, you can go back to a certain date and find the required footage.

The C6T can also be easily integrated into the EZVIZ alarm system. Once a door sensor or room PIR alarm is triggered, the camera will capture a picture and video footage and send them to the device owner. Click here for my EZVIZ Security Starter Alarm Smart Home Kit review.

While the app could be further refined to make it a bit more user-friendly, it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me to buy this tidy piece of tech.

The C6T is available from Very and Argos for between £69.99 and £79.99.
