Budding actors, dancers and singers have the chance to shine at auditions to join one of South Yorkshire’s oldest amateur dramatic groups.

Phoenix Operatic Society is ready to welcome new members during its open auditions this month.

The Rotherham-based group has been going since 1935, and has performed 62 productions.

Their latest musical is called ‘Now That’s What I Call Phoenix’, to be performed at Rotherham Civic Theatre in March 2014.

The show will be a musical medley of songs from musicals such as Saturday Night Fever, Cabaret, The Producers and Annie.

There will also be numbers from TV shows Glee and Smash, and ballads from James Bond films.

Carole-Anne Holden, chair of the society, said: “For those wanting to get involved, open auditions will be held on Wednesday, September 25, at Brinsworth West Community Hall.

“Dance auditions will be held later, on Sunday, September 29.

“Children are welcome to take part as well, and they can audition in the community hall on Sunday, October 13. We are always looking for enthusiastic members to join us.”
