WANTED: one would-be pirate who can act, sing and swashbuckle!

Step forward Ben Rowe, former head chorister at York Minster – and ex captain of the famous Minster School Fencing Team.

At 20 years old, he is even the perfect age to play Frederick, the apprentice pirate in Dore Gilbert and Sullivan Society’s 40th anniversary production of The Pirates of Penzance.

Ben, who is studying Aerospace Technology at Sheffield Hallam University, has been singing all his life. Wanting to maintain his talents in Sheffield, he found the society on the internet – and landed the lead.

“The fact I was captain of the fencing team is really coming in handy!” he said.

n The Pirates of Penzance is at the University Drama Studio from April 17 to 21. Visit www.doregass.co.uk
