Superbike hunk steps out with singer

SOUTH Yorkshire superbike ace James Toseland is believed to have found love with singer-songwriter Katie Melua.

The 30-year-old motorcycle racer, and 26-year-old Melua - who has had hits with songs including Nine Million Bicycles - stepped out hand in hand in public for the first time at The English National Ballet Summer Party.

Toseland, who was born in Doncaster and brought up in Kiveton Park, Rotherham, said: “I went to see her at a recent concert, and a friend who is also a piano player in her band acted as a match-maker between us.”

Melua said she is looking forward to seeing Toseland in action on his bike.

“I like speed and I’m a bit of an adrenaline junkie,” she said. “I have not seen him race yet.”

As well as being a motorcyclist, Toseland - like Melua - is also a pianist.

He started taking piano lessons at the age of eight, and achieved Grade 6 in his piano exams.

The former Wales High School pupil performs regularly with his band ‘Crash’ when not at his home in the Isle of Man, and played a piano set at the British Sports Personality of the Year Awards in 2007.
