THOUSANDS of visitors have logged on to a website which has made South Yorkshire’s best-loved oil paintings available online for the first time.
The project, called Yorkshire’s Favourite Paintings, features 100 artworks including 12 pieces from Sheffield’s Graves Gallery and Kelham Island Museum.
Visitors to the site can choose their favourite painting - and so far the piece prompting the strongest reaction has been Derrick Greaves’ ‘Sheffield’, from 1953.
Liz Waring, curator of visual art at Museums Sheffield, said: “The reaction has been fantastic and it’s great these works are now accessible to anyone around the world.”
