Cooks from two South Yorkshire primaries are set to go head to head in a battle to be crowned Yorkshire and Humber School Chef of the Year 2015.
Jenni Melrose from Sheffield’s Arbourthorne Primary will take part in a cook off with Alison Jones from Toll Bar Primary in Doncaster, along with a third finalist from Scarborough.
The regional final is to be held at Doncaster College on January 21 - and two local 11-year-olds will be part of the judging panel.
Jenni’s menu will feature Yorkshire fishcakes with crushed minted garden peas, homemade tomato sauce with a Yorkshire twist served with a duo potato stack.
Her dessert will be a sweet Yorkshire pudding stuffed with chopped cherries served with berry coulis and cherry and pineapple fluff.
Alison will be serving up lemon and herb loco-moco-chicken with ratatouille stack and cous cous funnel, followed by a chocolate fruit wheel, crunchy chocolate shortbread with fruits and meringue.
The winner from the heat will go on to represent the whole of the Yorkshire and Humber against nine other regional champions in the national final which is to be held in May.
Each finalist will be asked to prepare their healthy balanced meal in just 90 minutes with a maximum cost per child of £1.60, and a remit to appeal to 11-year-olds.
The contest has been running for over two decades and seeks to test the preparation, cooking, creativity and presentation skills of school chefs.
