A SHEFFIELD concert by pop group McFly was halted when excessive haze triggered smoke alarms.

More than 2,500 people attending Friday’s City Hall concert and the Comedy Club in its smaller Memorial Hall were evacuated, while firefighters attended.

Richard Hunter, City Hall manager said: “The fire officers confirmed excessive haze from stage effects was responsible for triggering the alarms. They were satisfied no danger was present.

“The band’s production management agreed to reduce the amount of haze effect and the show continued without further incident.”

McFly guitarist Tom Fletcher, pictured, said: “Considering the evacuation madness, it was a great show. Thanks to everyone for being so patient through the fire alarm.”
