THEY have had the builders in at Meadowhall shopping centre in an attempt to break a world record.

But these builders were not the type you see in hi-vis vests and hard hats.

On this occasion, they were the thousands of youngsters and their families who flocked to Meadowhall to try to become record-breakers.

The shopping centre was bidding for a world record for the biggest number of people taking part in building a sculpture, with an attempt at building a giant alien structure out of plastic bricks.

Once complete, it will be several metres-high, weigh half a ton and be made up of 250,000 plastic bricks.

Being built is Bloxx, from the new series Ben 10: Omniverse which premieres on Cartoon Network in October.

The Alien World Record challenge is running throughout the summer holidays, visiting nine shopping centres across the UK, getting bigger and bigger along the way as more bricks are added at each location.
